Banda samjhe paath te pooja mainu paar langhavange;
Janam maran de chakkar ton eh mainun aan bachawange. Barat nem namajan roje naal mere eh jaavange; Teerath kaaba haj te kashi mere dukh mitavange. Karam dharma sab bandhan hi ne jinhan vich eh fasya ey; Kahe avtar eh naagan maya jis ne is nun dasya ey. |

Man thinks that recitation of holy scriptures and worship of deities will enable him to transcend the ocean of materialism;
That these acts will save him from the cycle of birth and death; That these fasts, rituals and prayers will go with him at last; And that the pilgrimages to holy places like Kaba and Kashi will alleviate his sufferings. Rites and rituals are only bondages, in which man has got entangled; Avtar says, it is the serpent of materialism that has stung man. |
Meaning
Lost in materialism, man wanders but is unable to find God. Man thinks that speaking of holy scriptures and worship of idols will enable him to leave behind the ocean of materialism. That these acts will save him from the cycle of birth and death. That these fasts, rituals and prayers will go with him at last.And that the trips to holy places like Kaba and Kashi will ease his sufferings. Rites and rituals are only bondages, in which man is busy. Here Baba Avtar Singh ji says, man has started giving more importance to materialism and is now suck in it.
